The R.N.L.I. need Lifejackets.
Iron Broo Accordionist Charlie Abel (me) will be taking part in The Great Scottish 10K on the 5th of September 2010 in Glasgow after an invitation from fiddler Sharon Hassan. Sharon along with fellow musicians Rachel Hair and Maeve MacKinnon came up with the Traddies for 10k idea to get as much traditional musicians as possible to get up out of their beds early on a Sunday morning and run for 10K through the streets of Glasgow in the Great Scottish Run. I would like to also use the opportunity for my effort to try and raise funds for the R.N.L.I. Who as many of you may know rely 100% on donations from the public. Saving lives at Sea is an expensive business. I aim to try to raise £500 to buy a Lifeboat crew some lifejackets. Please visit my Justgiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Charlie-Abel-IronBroo or click the widget above and donate some dosh. Please dig deep and help me to raise enough for some lifejackets.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
The R.N.L.I. is not supported by any Government Money. It relies 100% on donations from the public to maintain it's running costs.
Here's an example of it's costs....
- £16 - pair of crew gloves
- £55 - personal flare pack
- £40 - crew member's boots
- £90 - thermal suit
- £180 - safety helmet
- £500 - crew lifejackets
Every day an average of 22 people are rescued by the RNLI’s lifeboat crews around the coasts of the UK and Republic of Ireland. This service is only made possible because of the personal courage and commitment of brave volunteers, their high quality equipment and their regular specialist training. Rescue doesn’t come cheap and is made possible by their dedication, training and commitment. People from 45 communities around Scotland volunteer to crew RNLI lifeboats and in 2008 they rescued 762 people. Over a third of these rescues took place in the dark and Scottish RNLI crews spent a total of 1,642 hours at sea going to the aid of people in need of rescue. As an independent charity they rely on public donations to ensure rescues are possible.
So please dig deep,
Thanks.
Charlie
